Measuring the excess weld metal using welding gauge

One way of measuring the excess weld metal (some say weld reinforcement) is by using welding guage. Set the tip of the welding guage in base metal and make sure it reads 0 mm, then set the tip of the welding gauge on the top of the weld and you will have reading of the height of the excess weld metal. The picture displayed above shows how the welding gauge is being used.
