What is Non Destructive Testing?

NDT or Non Destructive Testing is a type of test used in the industry to evaluate the properties of a component without damaging it.

Unlike Destructive Testing, component that have been tested with NDT can be used, re-used after NDT is completed, where in contrast, a component that is tested destructively (Destructive Test) cannot be used after the testing.

There are various NDT Techniques used. Some of it are listed below;

Acoustic Emission Testing (AE)

Electromagnetic Testing (ET)

Guided Wave Testing (GW)

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)

Laser Testing Methods (LM)

Leak Testing (LT)

Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL)

Microwave Testing

Liquid Pentrant Testing (PT)

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)

Neutron Radiogrpahic Testing (NR)

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT)

Radiographic Testing (RT)

Thermal Infrared Testing (IR)

Time of flight Diffraction  (TOFD)

Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

Vibration Analysis (VA)

Visual Testing (VT)

The four most frequently used methods are PT, MT, UT and RT while PAUT and TOFD is getting known.
