Mr. Red Martin informed us that he and Kirk Delgado flew to KSA today to work as Welder in CWC based in Saudi Arabia.

Red is a native of Manila while Kirk is a native of Capas, Tarlac. Red and Kirk were classmates in Heats during their welding courses. Though Manila is quite far from Tarlac, Red still chose to enroll in Heats. His decision to take the welding courses in Heats was the best choice for him. Now, it’s payback time. He can now earns dollar$ in the Middle East.

One of our graduates, Mr. Rodrigo Dumay informed us recently that he will be flying to Japan and work as TIG Welder on November 3, 2011.

Prison for NDT Inspector who lied on test reports

An NDT Inspector has been sentenced to 3 years prison and order to pay $654,000
compensation after admitting to certifying critical welds on submarines without
actually testing them.

Robert Ruks aged 34 was employed as an inspector at the Newport News
shipbuilding yard in Virginia. His worked required him to inspect welds on various
types of navy vessels including critical welds on nuclear submarines.

In 2009 Ruks was interviewed by the US Navy’s criminal investigation service after
fellow inspectors had suspected that he was signing off welds that he had not
tested.

During his employment Ruks certified more than 10,000 welds on submarines.
Around 10% of which were hull integrity or SUBSAFE joints involving critical
parts, failure of which could have lead to the loss of a nuclear submarine.

As a result of his actions over 9,500 welds had to be reinspected. During the
retests 14 structural welds were found to be defective and required repairing.
The re-inspection required 18,900 man hours and cost $654,000. As part of
Ruks sentence he will be required to repay that sum to the US Navy.

The three Kirk, Onie and Lito has been doing training in TIG Welding in Heats School of Welding Technology Inc.

Just recently, one of our graduate from Laguna landed a job as welder in Sudan.

Mr. Ramil Callada (see picture on left) took Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) Courses in Heats in the last quarter of 2010.

Mil as his classmates fondly called him, was one of the serious students during his training. Before he went for training in Heats, he also took BSIT Course in Pamantasan ng Cabuyao in Laguna.

It’s a dream comes true for Mr. Callada as he was dreaming to work overseas ever since. Now he is working as a Certified Welder in Kenana Sugar Company located in Sudan, Africa earning more than P30,000 a month seven hours a day.

This is another fulfillment of Heats ‘ Vision for its existence.

Just recently, one of our graduate Mr. Tassmir Bara, a native of Mindanao flies to Brunei for overseas work.

Tas, as his classmates fondly called him, took the Basic Welding, SMAW NCII (SMAW-Pipe) and GTAW NCII (GTAW-Pipe). He graduated last March 15, 2011 and flies to Brunei last March 17, 2011.

Tas started in Heats with no knowledge in welding and he left Heats with all the technical capability of a welder may have in SMAW and GTAW. He passed the TESDA Assessment after his graduation and now a Certified Welder.

According to him, he now works as a Welder with a local company in Brunei.

Two Heats graduates Mr Winny and Marvin landed a job in Las Pinas’ Lentex. Winny and Marvin as their classmate often called them joined Mr Randy Nardo’s company.

These four graduates are Randy, Winny, Marvin and Roselito. However, Mr. Roselito Bullo resigned just recently to attend some personal affair in Mindanao.

The 6th Batch Welding Inspector Course was conducted last January 3-7, 2011 at Heats School of Welding Technology Inc. air-conditioned training room. It was attended by 3 personnel from Zaragosa, Nueva Ecija, Manila and LaPaz Tarlac.

The course started with a quiz to gauge the welding knowledge of the participants. The participants, Mr Eugene Diaz, a Welding Technology graduate and Psychologist, Nelson Joson, an OFW and Marine Engineering graduate and Lawrence Santiago an Industrial Engineer. Eugene plans to work in Australia that’s why he joined the course while Lawrence and Nelson want to get a better career in Welding Inspection.

The course ended with an end-of-course assessment of General Welding Technology, Specific Welding Technology, Practical Plate Inspection and Practical Pipe Inspection. Three of the participants passed the end-of-course assessment and were awarded Certificate of Completion. The graduation Ceremony was held in Sycamore Restaurant Function Room in San Rafael, Tarlac City.

To Lawrence, Eugene and Nelson, congratulations!!! Thank you for trusting us to this kind of training.

The WI Graduates

It was attended by ex-OFWs who are planning to take further course in Welding Inspection. The course was conducted from June 7-11, 2010. It was a 40 hours rigid training both in theory and practical.

The Instructor was a Certified Sr. Welding Inspector (CSWIP 3.2) and with more than 15 years of experience in the field of Welding Inspection, NDT and QA/QC.

The trainees was assessed in their last day of training and they all passed the end of course assessment.

The welding process that is commonly used in offshore welding are the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) or combination of GTAW and SMAW.

Metals that being welded offshore are carbon steel, low temperature carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex stainless steel and super duplex stainless steel and others. These metals are used in offshore structures, process piping, pipelines, pressure vessels among others.

Welders on this type of work are 6GR welders, 6G welders and TIG Welders. Most of the time, a welder have these all types of qualifications. They will be qualified to weld in all positions with all these types of metals.

It is an interesting, challenging and lucrative job for people who like this kind of job.

The corrosion process takes place because of the natural tendency of materials, particularly the metal commonly used for structures, tanks, ships and other structures, to revert from the metallic state to the more stable oxide of the metal.

The metal is no longer usable in this condition and if a major metal reversion has taken place, the structure fails. This kind of destruction must therefore be prevented.

Several methods of assuring the continued viability and usability of various structures at a minimum cost may be considered.

1. Select and use specific corrosion-resistant materials for construction

2. Changing or altering the environment

3. Use a barrier between the structural material and the environment (protective coating)

4. Use cathodic protection

5. Use the principal of corrosion allowance or overdesign.

Corrosion is very expensive. In 1995, it is commonly reported in various media that estimated annual losses due to corrosion in th US amounted to more than $48 billion.

Oil companies are investing huge amount of dollar for the coating maintenance of their assets offshore and onshore. Thousands of Corrosion Engineers, Coating Inspectors, Blasters and painters are hired annually to maintain these onshore and offshore structures. Contractors also hire these personnel for the newly constructed structures.

With the current demand of Blasters, Painters, Painting Supervisors and Painting Inspectors in the construction industry overseas, Heats will venture in Corrosion and Corrosion Engineering trainings.

The first of it will be the Painting Inspector’s Course that is scheduled on December 13-17, 2010. This course is intended to graduates of any 4-year course or engineering course. Aside from Welding Inspector, Painting Inspector is one of the in-demand position overseas with a better remuneration package. The course instructor is a Certified Coating Inspector with a strong background in painting work onshore and offshore.

Aside from Painting Inspector’s Course, Heats also plans to offer Blaster Course and Painter Course which is also in-demand overseas like welders. Blaster Certificate and Painter Certificate will be issued to the successful trainees signed by a Certified Coating inspector (NACE-2).

Mr. Longley started last July 26, 2010. He will be trained in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding for 34 rigid training days (268 hours).

Two of our Instructors will be handling his training and we are sure enough that after his 34 days training he will learn all the needed practical knowledge in GTAW (TIG).

Aside from Mr. Longley, in the month of June 2010, a Filipino-American Mr. Cristino Cabradilla enrolled for our TIG Welding Course. He also finished his training in June and flew back to US. He was very thankful for what he learned in Heats. He plans to apply as a Welder in Texas Oil and Gas Industry and also plans to put up his own welding training center back home which will cater the Filipino-American in his area.

We are hoping that like Mr. Cabradilla, Mr. Longley will learn a lot in our training facilities.

The minimum numbers of participants will be 25, and the deadline of enrollment will be on 6 weeks prior to course date.

The Course and exam fee will be USD2,200 inclusive of preparatory course, exam, training module, lunch, snacks and certificate.

Cancellations:

HSWTI reserves the right to cancel the course at any time. In the event that a course is cancelled by HSWTI the paid fee shall be refunded to the registrant. .

If the Registrant wishes to cancel, a cancellation notice must be received no later than two weeks prior to the course for a full refund of the course fee. 75% of the course fee will be refunded to Registrants who cancel beyond the deadline. Registrants who do not cancel and do not attend the course will not receive a refund. Fees for Required or Recommended Texts are non-refundable regardless of cancellation notice.

Registration must be received six weeks prior to the course with FULL PAYMENT by check or Bank Transfer.
